Turnament Devlog Nr. 21 - Control Scheme Update

This is a pretty important update, because the control scheme got changed.

For those who have played it, it will take a few minutes to adjust.

For those who haven't played it, judging from feedback I've received, I think it will now be more intuitive.

The new control scheme works like this:

Left click allows you to select a seeker, and right click allows you to tell the seeker where to go.

Left click also allows you to turn grid squares on and off.

This way you don't have to de-select your seeker to turn a grid square. Thanks to SaimizZ, Sonic.exe, and others who have reported trouble with the previous control scheme.

Again, if you were used to the previous one, it will take a bit to adjust, but I've played with it for a week now and it feels a lot better, especially in endless mode.

The other much talked about areas of Turnament are the levels with "broken seekers" (those who move around randomly). I have updated them to add a "thinking" animation. This is just like how the old version was, but back then it was simply randomly happening every now and then that it just didn't choose a direction to go at all. Now, it thinks for 1-2 seconds every two steps. This makes it easier to catch it, especially when it "escapes". And I think it looks cute. :D

Besides all the changes listed below, I have also started working on a new track, it will be used for story levels, so not something you'll hear in the demo, but I'm nevertheless pretty excited about new music.

And now it's time for...

Demo Update 👁

Once again, here is the full Changelog:

  • Changed control scheme:
    Left click: Select seeker
Left click: Turn grid squares on AND off
Right click: Send selected seeker to target destination
  • Added sound and particle effect to last remaining crystal on the grid
  • Endless Mode: Add random music every ten levels (this is temporary until it gets its own dedicated track)
  • Endless Mode: Changed transition sprites to only show "inside" the board borders
  • Endless Mode: Add new creator variant with rotating projectiles every 10 levels
  • Creators now show when and where they will shoot next (they start glowing in the direction they're going to shoot at, and animate one full circle)
  • Broken seekers (those walking around randomly) now think for 1-2 seconds every 2 steps, this should make them easier to catch
  • Fixed bug where if you have seeker #1 selected and repair seeker #2 dies, you weren't able to command seeker #1 around anymore

The feedback has been tremendous so far, I'm really thankful for everyone who has sent in paragraphs upon paragraphs of valuable information about my game. It will improve because of you.

Suffice to say, there is a lot on my list and I'm going through it with certain priorities. I have to make sure the base game is as good as it can be, but I also want to add new music, challenge mode and level editor. It's going to be hard to say no to certain suggestions, but as you all know, the launch of a game is never the end is never the end is never the end

To be continued... 💎
