Turnament Devlog Nr. 15 - Demo Release


The Turnament Demo is now available on Steam!

There is a big "send feedback" button in the upper right corner, it automatically sends a screenshot and a game log, so if you have something to report, please use that shiny button!

Keep in mind this is still an early build, there is no new music yet, and other things might still change. But it's important to know if this game is on the right path, so I want to involve you as soon as possible.

What happened since last time? Here's a quick overview:

  • Updated pause/options menu (no more Catty & Batty)
  • Fixed font looking weird when the window was small (now using 512 atlas size when generating the font for TextMeshPro)
  • Added Feedback Form using the plugin called Easy Feedback Form
  • Added distortions for certain dialogue images and broken fields
  • Made sure the background image is set to what the level is using (i.e. start a level where Moon is background, then the background object grabs that sprite)
  • Energy cursor doesn't "blink" anymore between scene transitions
  • Added slowdown sometimes when a projectile is close to a seeker
  • Improved level 10 and 11 (easier with controller)
  • Added particle and sound effects when a projectile collides with a seeker
  • Added end screen for demo
  • Added level selection (with best finish time)
  • Added new sound effects for cutscene 13/14/15/16
  • Added social media icons on splash screen
  • Triangle/C now toggles last active seeker
  • Added NumPad to player 1 keyboard map (in Catty & Batty, this was reserved for player 2)
  • Added glow to shield (it's now yellow instead of green)
  • Slowed down rotation of projectiles when they're standing still
  • Broken fields no longer flicker (their distortion shader effect is now enough)
  • Updated Steam icon to crystal
  • Added Steam cloud save functionality

I think I mentioned it previously, but as you can see, currently Turnament has 100% of my attention.

What's next?

There's still a lot to do, and the demo will be continually updated until the Next Fest in June. Let's take a look:

New music

I've already exported the individual layers of the old music, and my plan is to make a bunch of new tracks with them. I want to make at least 1 new track for the demo, and split that up into multiple loops for the levels. I'm really looking forward to it! I've been coding way too much. :D

New splash screen and new logo

That's right, the logo is about to be replaced. In fact, I already have it. I'm still waiting for the new background image. Both will be added as soon as it's ready, but in time for the demo.

Updated sounds

I've gained access to a huge collection of new sounds, and I plan to update a few in the game. We'll see! I've already added new sounds for the death collision of seekers, and for slowdowns, and I'm looking forward to adding/replacing more. I don't want to go too far from the original sounds, but if I find something better, I'll use it.

New Game Mode

I'm planning to add an "endless" mode (maybe I'll call it "Forever Mine" :D) with random levels and meta progression. This will be outside of the story, so probably include a lot of random stuff, just for fun. I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish this in time for the demo, but I definitely want to give it a try.

Credits

Of course, I still need to add credits, but maybe that's something for the actual release. I could still add basic credits somewhere on the start page. Not sure yet. The old one also only had it at the end of the game.

Achievements

I will definitely add achievements, but these will happen after the demo. I also will add one or two to the new game mode. I think they'll be just as easy to get as in Catty & Batty, no need to add hard stuff for no reason.

Easter Eggs

The original game didn't have any easter eggs at all, neither did Catty & Batty. I definitely want to add some this time. Not quite sure yet, but if you have any ideas, let me know! :D

Translations

I want to support at least the same languages as for Catty & Batty, but this will all happen at a later time. The dialogue might still change, and I want to wait until everything is set in stone.
