Turnament Devlog Nr. 29 - Achievements


Happy New Year! 🎉

This is the first post of 2023, and certainly not the last. I will post weekly devlog entries until the release in February. The exact date is still uncertain (depends on how much I get done in the next 2-3 weeks), but February it is.

What happened since last time?

Live Streams

In the second week of December, I did five live streams on Twitch to gain some focus, and I managed to do the following:

  • Finish implementing achievements
  • Started implementing challenge mode
  • Fixed several bugs
  • Added energy display
  • Added money display after levels
  • Made a new build (changelog)
  • And more!

Live streams really helped, and I managed to work on Turnament more than 2 hours per day.

But then...

Involuntary Break Time

I had two weeks of vacation and... I got ill again! I don't get fever very often, so getting it twice in one year is pretty weird for me. Christmas was a bit strange, but I still managed to see friends and family when I got better.

The new year didn't hesitate to arrive super quickly either, and so, suddenly it was 2023.

New Year

We went to a new year's concert, which was quite amazing. They played the Star Wars Episode 1 Darth Maul song, and they had a huge choir too. It was the perfect start into the year. I felt motivated, inspired, and full of energy.

So... with the launch looming, what's left to do? Let's take a look.

Road To Launch

  • Challenge mode: I've done 25 of the required 30 maps, and I will finish the rest this week. These levels are extremely fun to create, and super hard to beat. :D
  • Commentary mode: I've written all the text for all 30 commentaries, and I will record them this week (tomorrow, in fact) and add them to the game afterwards.
  • Perfect sound: Still need to record all sounds for this and also put them in the game, but should be fairly straightforward.
  • Halfquake skin: Needs a bit more attention, but mostly done.
  • Translations: I think I will be able to squeeze in one or two translations for the launch, we'll see. Otherwise, this will be added after launch.
  • More music: If possible, I'd like to add another three music tracks, but this isn't a deal breaker if it's not done before launch. We'll see.
  • More playtesting: I hope I can get more people to test it out before launch, I've sent it to a few friends who haven't played it yet, so I expect some feedback from that.
  • Polish, polish, polish: Fix all the little bugs and add some more quality of life stuff. The devil is in the details, as they say.
  • Trailer: I will finally prepare footage for the new trailer. I already have the music track made by KAON, can't wait for the finished video.

It sounds like a lot, but I'll be half-way done with this list next week, so I feel like I'm doing okay.
